Our roadmap shows what we are working on and planning to do.

Some things on the roadmap might change. The purpose is to tell you what’s coming up and help teams prepare and plan their work.

Recently completed

We have recently:

  • added the button group class to provide consistent spacing when placing multiple buttons next to each other. This has been documented in the button guidance
  • added logic that applies consistent spacing when a button is placed below a form element or fieldset. This can be seen in the designing forms guidance
  • updated relevant guidance with details on why not to use disabled state attribute and what to do instead

Previously, we released the V0.9.0 package that included a new focus state as well as form elements and related guidance.

Working on now

We are:

  • working on V0.10.0. We plan to include updates to the filter and pagination components
  • making enhancements to existing components to bring them up to the design system standards, with a focus on accessibility
  • redesigning the design system website information architecture and navigation to accommodate more content
  • developing a triage and prioritisation process for requests and suggestions
  • developing our approach to discovery for large scale strategic changes to the design system, starting with navigation and wayfinding
  • enhancing our approach to measuring the impact of changes to the design system

Future

We plan to:

  • engage wider stakeholders in the design system work, including colleagues from the brand teams and product owners across Parliament
  • audit internal procedural applications to understand design system adoption and the use of custom components
  • develop a contribution process for the design system
  • create best practice guidance for adding tracking to design system components
  • define and publish V1.0.0
  • make visual design and brand enhancements
  • make the design system easier to access and adopt
  • explore new types of guidance for the design system website
